PROJECT STATEMENT

Inspired by Cubism, the installation explores the creation of a device for looking - with a sense of ambiguity and misinterpretation offering new perspectives of Philadelphia. Elements extracted from historical buildings are abstracted and reconfigured in a new way based on a novel grid on the facade. It strives for a decent balance between unity and diversity. The graphics create a continuity that smoothly flows between adjacent surfaces, generating an optical illusion between 2D and 3D. Opposite to the exterior, the interior objects are rearranged in a more expressive and unconventional way, creating a multifaceted space with richness. Voids from the diagonal axis form an X-shaped light shaft, creating a dome-like circumstance from one end. Openings blend with the exterior pattern harmoniously and create a transition between inside and outside, fostering an interplay of openness and enclosure.
