PROJECT STATEMENT

Perception is defined as being aware of something through the senses. How we perceive a stimulus is what becomes our reality, but does that mean perception is reality. Through the different societal lenses, an image of Philadelphia architecture develops, but our project aims to distort the audiences understanding of the world around them. Using solid forms that have qualities of opaqueness and transparency combined, the perceived reality becomes harder to define. In anticipation of confusion, and questioning of the status quo, we create a space and object that allows the viewer to formulate their own idea as they look through different reliefs and patterns. Seeing alternate lenses that frame the environment is the overall aim of the project while using familiar elements and materials such as gable, glass, steel and different ornamentations. A sitting platform is also incorporated facing the opposite direction towards a floating screen where the viewer can view the environment with the context of a film.
