PROJECT STATEMENT

Trunnion is a project which takes Sebastien Truchet’s 2-dimensional pattern concept and applies it to a 3-dimmensional unit intended for play. The Trunnion set consists of 3 discrete units- angled, curved, and varied- along with different length connectors that can be used for structural support or ornamentation. Like Truchet’s pattern, when rotated 90 degrees in any direction these units connect to each other in a fluid and modular manner. The system’s bright colors and grid organization invites users to build at a controlled, medium scale. Differently oriented units can be built to convey dense, solid volume, or the same unit can be replicated in a linear fashion to communicate solid planes.
